When you submit documents to a government office, apply on a job site or register products in an online store, you often run into limits like "attachments must be 1 MB or less."
A single smartphone photo is often over 5 MB, so shrinking files every time takes a while. For these moments, here is a free tool: the EasyCVT Image Compressor.
What is this tool?
You only choose a width and a target file size, and the tool automatically finds a suitable quality level and compresses the image. There is no need to try quality values one by one.
Processing happens inside your browser, and your files are not sent to a server.
Options
- Width: 2000 / 1600 / 1200 / 1000 / 800 / 600 / 400 / 200 px
- Target size: 5 MB / 3 MB / 2 MB / 1 MB / 500 KB / 200 KB or less
- Input formats: JPG, PNG, WebP. Output: JPG
How to use
- Drag and drop an image, or upload it with "Browse image files".
- Choose a width.
- Choose a target size.
- Press "Compress".
- Check the result and save it with "Download compressed image".
A helpful result screen
After compression, the tool shows the original resolution and size, the sizes before and after, the compression ratio and the output resolution at a glance. You can see right away how much the file shrank, which makes it easy to meet a submission limit.
Recommended settings by situation
- Document or application attachments (1 MB or less): width 1200 px + 1 MB
- Blog or online community uploads: width 1000 to 1200 px + 500 KB
- Messenger sharing and thumbnails: width 600 px + 200 KB
Good to know
The output format is fixed to JPG, so a transparent PNG background is not preserved. If you need a transparent background, use another method.
